ARMFA’s East African Focal Group meeting was held in Hawassa City, Ethiopia from 23rd to 27th of June, 2019, which mainly focuses on tabling best practices of a given country for the benefit of each member country. Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar and Ethiopian representatives were able to attend the meeting. The meeting got its start with the welcoming note from Mr. Rashid Mohamed Director General of Ethiopian Road Fund and after an official opening remark made by Eng. Jacob Ruwa CEO of Kenyan Road Board and first vice president African Roads Maintenance Fund Association (ARMFA). On his welcoming speech Mr. Rashid sends his gratitude to participants for making it to the program from their busy schedule and he also thanked every individual that make the meeting possible especially Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People’s Road Authority for their unreserved support. During the event, Hawassa University Representatives were able to table presentation on Technical Audit Road Fund Financed Maintenance Projects, Road Inventory and Condition Survey on South Road Authority and Hawassa Municipality.
A site visit was also part of the information and knowldeg sharing as well. On the next day after the meeting all participants were able to visit Mojo-Hawassa Highway Project – Zeway Section (37km) Lot II. Which Eng. Ruwa Kenya asked the project manager the time frame for Ethiopia to be able to pay back the loan and Eng. Ruwa CEO of Kenyan Road Board and first vice president African Roads Maintenance Fund Association (ARMFA) also suggested that the higher the number of cars using on daily basis the sonner Ethiopia’s loan will get paid off, for the paying back hundred percent depends on tolling.
